Stone Publishing Chosen By Printing Institution “The Press” To Service Clientele As They End An 83-Year Silicon Valley Legacy
SANTA CLARA, CALIF. (June 10, 2008) – Stone Publishing, a Bay Area print services company since 1998, is pleased to announce the acquisition of The Press (formerly the Rosicrucian Press), a San Jose, California printing institution that established its downtown roots in the early 1920s – in the “Valley of the Heart’s Delight” well before Silicon Valley was born.
Founded by Harry L. Shibley, The Press answered the need for quality business materials by providing much-needed printing for the thriving agricultural industry. By the mid 1950s, The Press was the largest commercial printer between Los Angeles and San Francisco and was the first to purchase an offset printing press. As Silicon Valley emerged, The Press played an integral part in its rich history by printing materials for infancy-stage Valley-based companies such as IBM, FMC, Memorex, The Pet Rock and Apple Computer – long before Lisa gave birth to the Mac.
After over 83 years in the printing business, the still family-owned company has decided to close its doors to make way for a new downtown development project, leaving behind a significant place in Silicon Valley history as well as a long list of satisfied clients. After an exhaustive search, Stone Publishing was chosen by The Press to take over its impressive list of clients, such as the San Jose Downtown Association, Linear Technologies, San Jose Redevelopment Agency and the Santa Clara County Medical Association, to continue their reputation of willingness, ability, personal service and outstanding offset printing.
“We didn’t want to turn our relationships over to just anyone,” said Tom Livingston, president and CEO of The Press. “Our clients are like family to us so it was important to find the right company to continue to serve their printing, mailing, fulfillment and promotional product needs like my family has been doing for over 80 years.” He continued by saying, “We found the Stone Publishing network of companies to be progressive and like-minded in their core values. We all felt it was the most optimal environment to transition our clients into, knowing they would be serviced at the highest level.” Tom Livingston will continue with Almaden Press as Vice President of Sales.
This acquisition represents the fifth such print services company to proudly call Stone Publishing its parent firm; the first being Almaden Press, acquired in 2001; Amazing Graphics, acquired in 2003; House of Printing, acquired in 2006; Offsite Fulfillment Services, acquired in late 2007 and now The Press, in May. Between Almaden Press, House of Printing and Offsite Fulfillment Services, the Stone Publishing network of companies host client lists that read like a Bay Area “Who’s Who.” Google, Apple, Adobe, Intel, Cisco, Sun Micro, the San Jose Sharks, Oakland A’s, Oakland Raiders, Great America – even Dreyer’s Ice Cream – all consistently return as repeat clients.
Stone Publishing’s complete print services solution provides the highest quality option for small-to-Fortune 100 companies. “We’re extremely humbled that The Press felt we were the best organization for their clients,” said Eric Stern, CEO of Stone Publishing and President of Almaden Press, House of Printing, and Offsite Fulfillment Services. “We’re excited about the enhanced capabilities and increased service offering we can offer The Press’ client-base, as a group of complementary print service companies. The Press is such a respected business… we are proud to be a part of our Valley’s history and continue the tradition they started.”
